About The Client

Military Hardware has a rich history that dates back to December 7th, 1959, when it was founded by John and Ruth Perkerson. Located in the heart of the Golden Triangle community, the store quickly became a staple in the area, known for its friendly service and a wide selection of quality hardware products. At the time of its opening, their son Mike was just 13 years old, but he eagerly took on the role of the store’s first stock boy, marking the beginning of his lifelong connection to the family business.

As Mike grew up, so did his responsibilities at the store. After marrying Carol, the couple became deeply involved in the day-to-day operations, eventually taking over the business from John and Ruth in the 1970s. Under Mike and Carol’s leadership, Military Hardware continued to thrive, maintaining the strong values of customer service and community engagement that the Perkersons had instilled from the beginning. For over 60 years, Mike and Carol ran the store with dedication and a personal touch, making it a trusted resource for countless customers in the area.

By 2020, after six decades of hard work, Mike and Carol were ready to retire. However, they were determined to ensure that Military Hardware would remain in good hands. They sought out new owners who would carry on the store’s legacy of being family-owned, customer-focused, and community-oriented. In January of that year, Robert and Mary Ann Benton became the proud new owners of Military Hardware. Although not originally from the area, the Bentons had deep ties to the community through their two children and six grandchildren, who lived nearby. For them, purchasing the store was not just a business opportunity, but the answer to a long-held prayer to relocate closer to their family.

Since taking over, the Bentons have honored the traditions established by the Perkersons, ensuring that Military Hardware remains the same welcoming, reliable place it has always been. Customers continue to be greeted with a smile and the familiar question, “What can we help you with?” The Bentons are committed to upholding the store’s reputation, as reflected in the local saying, “If Military Hardware doesn’t have it, then you don’t need it.”
